COLCHESTER United boss Joe Dunne admitted he was “hurting” after his side’s 5-1 Capital One exit at the hands of Peterborough.
Lee Tomlin was the two-goal hero, with Gabriel Zakuani, Tyrone Barnett and Tommy Rowe also on target in tonight’s first-round tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Jabo Ibehre netted the U’s consolation.
Dunne: “The game changed with 25 minutes to go. Up until then, it was very even.
“Until their second goal, there wasn’t much between the sides and I certainly didn’t think it was going to finish 5-1.
“But the third and fourth goals were class and after the third, we went to pot a bit.
“I felt really disappointed by that, but we have to keep it perspective, given the stage of the season we’re at.
“We were over-run in the last 20 minutes.
“Peterborough dominated then and I’m hurting that we lost 5-1.
“The players know that but let’s not get carried away.”
