Colchester and Tendring Athletic Club sprinter Joy Ogunleye enhanced her flourishing reputation by winning bronze at the English Schools Track and Field Championships.
The 13-year-old, who was competing for Essex, finished third in the Junior Girls 200 metres with a time of 25.63 seconds at the Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham.
The St Benedict’s Catholic College pupil had to run two heats to get to the final and clocked a personal best (PB) of 25.16s, before finishing second in her semi-final (25.41s).
Ogunleye, still only in her first full season in the sport, is coached by CAT’s Ian Kelly and looks a star for the future.
Langham-based athlete Thomas Hewes also won bronze at the English Schools Track and Field Championships.
The East Bergholt High School pupil, who was competing for Suffolk, was third in the Junior Boys high jump event after registering a new outdoor PB of 1.84 metres.
