Craig Eastmond was left out of Colchester United’s squad for their game with Peterborough United after being given time off by boss Joe Dunne.
The central midfielder began the season in the U’s starting line-up, featuring in their 2-2 opening-day draw with Oldham Athletic.
But the former Arsenal youngster limped out of that game with an ankle injury and has struggled to reclaim his place, thanks mainly to the impressive form of Alex Gilbey and George Moncur.
Eastmond was not even among the U’s substitutes for their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United.
When asked about Eastmond’s absence, U’s boss Dunne said: “I just feel that Craig needs some time off at the moment.
“I’m not going to say any more on that but he’ll be back in with the squad this week.”
