Colchester have made their second signing of the day after bringing in attacking full-back Elliott Hewitt on a month's loan from Ipswich Town.
The 20-year-old right-back, who started the season in the Town side, has played four league and cup appearances for the Championship side this season.
Hewitt, who enjoyed a productive loan spell at League One side Gillingham last season where he made 20 appearances, is a Wales under-21 international.
He will help provide competition for the U's current first-choice right-back Sean Clohessy, during his time at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Hewitt is in line to make his U's debut in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy second-round tie against Gillingham, tomorrow night.
