RICHARD Swindells (8) returned to form to win division one of the Playgolf Colchester’s All-day Stableford.

He beat Darren Kerr (9) on countback after both returned cards of 39 points.

Swindells showed signs of good form in the run up to the club championships, with a great ball-striking day and importantly a good putting display.

His card highlights came with eight pars and a creditable three front-nine birdies coming on the par five second and ninth holes and par four, stroke index one, fourth hole.

Second placed Kerr is also showing an improvement in form of late and also had a great ball-striking day with crisp approach shots peppering the pin on several holes.

His card showed 13 pars, form usually good enough to take the win.

Jonathan Bailey (70) missed out on the countback mix by a single point to take third spot with 38 points.

Neil Freeman (17) had a better back-nine score to win division two on countback from Adrian Binns (15).

Matt Gladman (15) scored 37 points to take third spot on countback from Wayne Oswick.

Philip Yearling (22) topped a trio of players all carding 34 points to win in division three.

Yearling’s better back nine score pushed in-form Bernie Keyes (24) in to second place, leaving John Frost (25) to take third place.

Improving Chris Soton (28) narrowly missed out on his first podium place by a single point with a card of 33.

Division two: 1 Peter Smith 37 pts, 2 Mervyn Harwood 33 pts ocb, 3 Geoffrey Tredgett 33 pts ocb.

A large field of ladies played in perfect golfing conditions, competing for the Playgolf ladies August Stableford Competition.

Pauline Coxon convincingly won division one with an outstanding 45 points, earning an exceptions handicap cut of four shots.

Gina Macmillan took second place, eight points back, with a respectable 37 points, closely followed by third placed Lucy Sadler, just a point back on 36.

There were also some excellent scores returned in Division two.

Catherine Le Tue took the top spot with 37 points, narrowly beating Pauline Jordan (36) into the runners-up spot.

There was a three-way tie for third with a trio of players all carding 34.

Janet Blackmore took the decision for third place with a nett-level par back nine of 18 points, leaving Emma Rowe in fourth and Maureen Dale fifth.
