Colchester United defender Kane Vincent-Young could be sidelined until December after his Achilles injury proved worse than first feared.
The teenage full-back, who has made eight appearances for the U's this season, saw a specialist about the problem this week and has now been ruled out for between six to eight weeks.
U's boss Tony Humes said: “We knew that Kane had a bit of a problem but we didn’t foresee it was going to be as long as it is.
“He’s seen a specialist and he’s had an injection to help the injury settle down.
“But he’s going to be out of action for six to eight weeks."
Tosin Olufemi has started at right-back for Colchester in their last two matches, following Vincent-Young's injury.
And boss Humes was pleased with Olufemi's display in their 2-0 win over Bradford City, which followed hot on the heels of the defender's competent performance at Swindon Town.
“Tosin was superb again - he’d been out for a long, long time and he’s had to wait his turn to get back into it," said Humes.
“Richard Brindley started the season and Kane (Vincent-Young) did so well but Tosin just got on with it.
“He’s a very level-headed boy who’s just got on with his job and done it very well."
