COGGESHALL TOWN maintained their title push with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at FC CLACTON tonight.
The sides met in a rearranged Thurlow Nunn League contest and it was Tom Monk and Conor Hubble who scored the Seedgrowers’ second-half goals at the Rush Green Bowl.
It kept them within touching distance of leaders Felixstowe and Walton, whose match at Fakenham Town was abandoned due to an injury to one of the Ghosts players.
Felixstowe are two points better off but Coggeshall have two games in hand and will be many people’s favourites to bring the silverware back to West Street.
Both sides had chances during an entertaining and hard-fought first period.
Coggeshall had plenty of possession and applied pressure, forcing saves from keeper Joe Fowler and going close when Monk’s drive was cleared off the line by Lee Clowsley.
But Clacton, who defended valiantly, had a couple of notable efforts of their own as both Matt Eve and Kevin Coyle tested keeper James Bransgrove’s reactions.
Coggeshall hit the post early in the second half before grabbing their opener.
Monk found himself in possession on the edge of the box before placing a precision effort into the top right-hand corner.
The second goal followed seven minutes from time and was a well-placed free-kick from Hubble.
The ball flew into the net with the aid of a slight deflection.
