COGGESHALL TOWN are on the brink of promotion after a 2-0 success at Wroxham.
The Seedgrowers now look certain to go up from the Thurlow Nunn League after scoring a goal in each half through Curtis Haynes-Brown and Jamie Shaw.
They are top of the premier division – four points clear of Felixstowe and Walton, who thumped Saffron Walden Town 4-0 – and have now won 34 of their 42 matches.
They are 12 points better off than third-placed Stowmarket Town but with their goal difference so superior, it looks highly unlikely they will be reeled in by the Suffolk side.
A top-two finish – and promotion – therefore appears a foregone conclusion.
Stowmarket flexed their muscles with an emphatic victory at home to FC CLACTON.
The in-form hosts notched their seventh straight win thanks to a 6-0 success.
The contest was effectively over by half-time, by which point they were already leading 4-0.
WIVENHOE TOWN also suffered defeat on the road, going down 2-0 at Newmarket Town.
It was the same score by which the Dragons had lost at Stowmarket on Thursday.
League Cup finalists BRANTHAM ATHLETIC have aspirations of a top-five finish and boosted their chances with a 3-0 victory at home to Kirkley and Pakefield.
Sam Newson scored two of their goals, sandwiched by a strike from Shaun Bartlett.
The Imps had had a scare during the goalless first half, when keeper Callum Robinson was called on to save a Kirkley penalty.
STANWAY ROVERS were in Friday night action again and fought back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Walsham-le-Willows.
It was a big day for first division side LITTLE OAKLEY, who had a pre-match presentation to officially unveil their new ground improvements.
The work has been part of a two-year project made possible by a maximum £72,962 grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.
It has helped the club purchase floodlights, perimeter fencing, hard standing and two spectator stands and, after the presentation, Oakley won 2-1 at home to March Town United.
Ryan Smart’s cool finish – connecting with a through ball, lifting it over the keeper and steering the ball into the empty net – gave them a half-time lead.
March equalised after the break but substitute Shaun Kioussis’ great free-kick, just after coming on, wrapped up the points for Oakley.
It was a particularly special day for Acorns assistant boss Paul Sadler, who is stepping down at the end of the season. This was his last home game with the team.
Elsewhere, HALSTEAD TOWN suffered a 2-1 defeat to Needham Market Reserves.
The Suffolk side completed the double over their hosts and, in the process, moved off the bottom of the table.
Cameron Storie scored the Humbugs’ goal.
HOLLAND FC entertained fourth-placed Swaffham Town and shared the spoils from a thrilling 4-4 draw while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES made the trip to Norwich CBS and won 2-0.
