Stoke by Nayland claimed victory in their Bronze Shield League home match against Chelmsford Ladies.
This was an important match for both teams, with Stoke's win putting them top of the league.
Accidents, road works and burst water mains meant Chelmsford and some Stoke ladies had a trying journey to get there.
Nevertheless, the match began on time and was played in good spirit, despite the importance of the competition to both sides.
Corinne Jackson and Debbie Howlett both had very close matches, finishing one down on the 18th and 19th holes respectively.
Lesley Hitchcock, with a three-up lead after 13 holes, was fighting to stay in the game having lost 14 and 15 but secured the win 2&1 on the 17th hole.
Edel Rew won her match 6&5 but not without a bit of a struggle after the turn.
Hilary Cairns sealed Stoke's win with a 2&1 victory, on the 17th.
Praise must go to the caddies who kept their players focused on a very hot day and to the ladies who manned the refreshments, providing much-needed cold drinks.
