THE annual Coulson Cup took place on Bank Holiday Monday at Colchester Bowling Club in Ardleigh.

Teams from hosts Colchester, Arclight, Severalls and West End, plus independent teams from various other clubs attended the competition and organisers thanked sponsors Healthcare Homes, Colchester for the prize money.

The contest took place on a very hot day with temperatures reaching 30C throughout the course of the tournament as 11 teams of four played four games of seven ends, with each scoring or losing points depending who won each game.

This year's winners were Brenda Pearce, Martin French, Yvonne Pain and Tim Fearn, who are all from Colchester Bowling Club.

They scored 12 points and 42 shots, while the runners-up were the independent team of Norman Manning, Brian Smith, Dennis Mold and Roly Ellen, who also scored 12 points, but had 32 shots.

The winning team received £120 and the runners-up received £80 and both teams gave the winnings to the President's charity.

An amount of money was also taken from the competition fees and that was also given to the President's charity - Headway Essex.
