COLCHESTER United have brought in some quality players in this summer's transfer window.

That's the view of U's player recruitment consultant Steve Ball, who is delighted with the additions they have made to their squad.

The window slammed shut last night, with Colchester adding Armando Dobra to their squad on loan from Ipswich Town, prior to the 11pm deadline.

Dobra, who has joined on a season-long loan, is one of 11 new players to have arrived at the JobServe Community Stadium since the end of last season.

Ball said: “We’re delighted with what we’ve brought in the door.

“When you look back to where we were in May with a new manager and a whole new squad to try and assemble, we’ve gone down the road of quality this year and really targeting some high-level players.

“I’m over the moon with the quality that we’ve brought in.

“Ryan Clampin started the season, he got injured and now you’re bringing in Charlie Daniels; Judgey gets injured and you’re bringing in Cole Skuse.

“I just think that quality is there and I think that there’s some nice depth to the squad.

“We’ve got a really competitive squad and we’ve got good options, in all positions.

“It’s a healthy squad with a good balance of age in the group – there’s some nice experience with some good younger ones.

“It’s been a really positive start."

Dobra, who has played 30 times for Ipswich, has joined Colchester on a season-long loan.

U's Director of Football Tony Humes told the U's website: "Armando is a great signing for the club. He had plenty of interest from sides in League One, but chose to join Colchester United.

"He will provide another option for Hayden to use this season, and we can't wait to see him get going."

Colchester have brought in Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse, Alan Judge, Freddie Sears, Frank Nouble, Luke Hannant and Charlie Daniels on permanent deals, over the last few months.

The U's have also added Dobra, Cameron Coxe, Sylvester Jasper and Jake Turner on loan.
