Gas Recreation moved to within one victory of the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division title, as they defeated Great Bentley 6-1.
With games running out, Brightlingsea's 1-0 win over Alresford Colne Rangers, thanks to a goal from Yunis Aslam, seems academic as they can only reach 55 points, while Gas Recreation have six games in which to clinch the title.
Team Bury have lofty ambitions and improved their chances of a high-finishing position with a 1-0 win at West Bergholt, but Earls Colne suffered a blow as they went down 2-1 at Dedham Old Boys.
Weeley Athletic hosted Little Oakley, who left with a 2-1 win.
White Notley are focused on clinching the division one title and their 6-1 win at Great Bradfords, was a signal of intent to Mersea Island, who kept the gap between top and second to two points with their 2-1 win at Foxash Social. Bures United struggled to defeat Kelvedon but a 1-0 win took the points and Holland came up trumps on their visit to Sudbury Athletic with a 2-1 victory.
Glemsford defeated Gosfield United 2-0.
In the reserves sections, the premier division title remains wide open as leaders University had the week off.
West Bergholt beat Alresford 3-0 to close in and Gas Recreation, with games in hand, beat Mistley United 3-1.
Earls Colne could also have been in with a shout but their 5-0 defeat by Brightlingsea may have put paid to their title challenge, and Great Bentley moved away from the relegation zone with a 5-3 win over Little Oakley.
White Notley missed the chance to clinch part one of their club's potential double as they lost 2-0 at Hatfield Peverel in division one.
Their league programme is now complete, and they must await the final game of Clacton United, who play Foxash Social next week, and need to win the game by at least three clear goals to snatch the title.
Clare Town will have an interest in that game also, as, if Clacton fail to win, they still have an outside chance of the runners-up spot, after their 4-2 win at Gosfield.
Boxted Lodgers thrashed Foxash Social 8-1, while Tiptree Heath and Great Bradfords drew 2-2.
Weeley Athletic booked their place in the final of the Reserve Knock Out Cup with a 2-1 win at Lawford Lads.
