THURSTABLE School took the overall honours by the narrowest of margins at the Colchester and Blackwater School Sports Partnership athletics championship.
The Tiptree school's athletes won the overall prize by a single point from Colchester's St Benedict's College at the meeting held at the Colchester Garrison track.
The two were among 11 schools that took part, with Colchester Royal Grammar School, Colchester County High School for Girls, the Gilberd, Philip Morant, St Helena, St Mary's, Sir Charles Lucas and Thomas, Lord Audley being the others.
Colchester Royal Grammar School won the boys' shield, while Colchester County High School for Girls were victorious in the girls' shield and in the year categories, Philip Morant College won year seven and eight, Thurstable was top in year nine and St Benedicts collected the year ten honour.
Overall results: 1st Thurstable 403 points, 2nd St Benedicts 402 pts, 3rd Philip Morant 377 pts, 4th St Helena 326 pts, 5th Thomas, Lord Audley 314 pts, 6th CRGS 261 pts, 7th CCHS Girls 254 pts, 8th St Mary's 217 pts, 9th The Gilberd 191 pts, 10th Colchester High School 190 pts, 11th Sir Charles Lucas 101 pts.
