COLCHESTER Harriers Allan Smalls has been rewarded for his fine running over the last two years with an England vest at the 100km International to be held at Cardiff at the end of May.
The Belfast Marathon was another step towards this goal with 32nd place in a time of two hours 55 minutes and nine seconds.
A reasonable reward for what was another warm-up for the big event and the fact that the course was tough for the first 16 miles.
David Wright celebrated his first marathon as a 50-year-old with a fine win in his age group, clocking 2h 58m 45s and finishing 47th overall.
Overhauling the leading veteran at 22 miles, Wright hung on for a 45 second victory over his nearest rival.
Rachel Richardson-Wright, Mel Smalls, and Dave Lacy all completed in the other Belfast races held on the day.
