A mixed bag of results had placed Mersea's Saskia Clark in a position where she could challenge for the medal spots as the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik in Holland came towards a close.
Together with skipper Christina Bassadone, Clark was sitting in fourth place in the women's 470 Class heading into the final race and medal race, 16 points adrift of the leaders.
The British duo, who are using the regatta to continue their preparations for the Beijing Olympics in August, made an unsteady start to the event, with two 15th places and a 20th included in the results of their opening five outings.
However, a tremendous run of form on day three of the regatta saw Clark and Bassadone demonstrate why they will be considered to be among the medal contenders for Beijing as they had a run of three firsts and a second to boost them up the leaderboard.
They followed that with some more consistent top ten placings to see them into fourth position heading into the final races of the regatta.
