Ipswich Town are one of three clubs being linked with Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin.

The 22-year-old is on a long-term contract at Anfield - despite not making a competitive appearance for the Premier League giants - and is reportedly being tracked by the Blues, Watford and Blackpool.

Town boss Jim Magilton wants a new goalkeeper because he is unlikely to offer new terms to Stephen Bywater or Nick Colgan.

Neil Alexander had started last season as first-choice between the posts but moved on to Glasgow Rangers.

Bywater was brought in on loan until the end of the season but is unlikely to stay, while Colgan - a permanent fixture on the bench - will also probably leave Portman Road.

Shane Supple is another option already on the books but appears to be down the pecking order and could well rejoin Falkirk on loan next season to get more games under his belt in the Scottish Premier League.

Martin, the son of former West Ham defender Alvin, joined Liverpool from the MK Dons in January 2006 and the following year had a loan spell at Accrington Stanley.

The Romford-born shotstopper - a former England Under-20 international - had started his career as a schoolboy defender with Tottenham Hotspur.

Other keepers linked with Town include former hero Richard Wright - wanted by Premier League new-boys West Bromwich Albion - and Thomas Sorensen, recently released by Aston Villa.

According to reports, Town have also been keeping tabs on Linfield's Northern Irish international keeper Alan Mannus and Club Brugge's Stijn Stijnen.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are being strongly linked with Heerenveen central defender Pim Balkestein, while Danny Haynes has again been reported in connection with Portsmouth.
