Clacton continued their impressive start to the East Anglian Premier League season with a fine six-wicket win at home to high-flying Great Witchingham.

After winning the toss, Seasiders skipper Martin Smith asked the visitors to bat first.

And both opening bowlers, Smith (2-33) and Ian Morton (2-31), got wickets in their first overs.

Although the conditions were very difficult due to the strong wind, Clacton's bowlers performed superbly.

All of them put pressure on the opposition batsmen, not giving them time to relax, and this discipline really proved effective.

Wickets fell on a regular basis and, although both Page and Garlick steadied the very rocky ship, it was short-lived, with Nuno Bernades registering his best-ever figures for the club with four for 27.

All the Clacton bowlers played their part, with Imran Sheikh taking one for 27 from 12 excellent overs.

Clacton's reply was very positive, with another opening stand of 51 between Andy Turner and Martyn Cull.

Both played very well and developed a strong partnership.

After Cull's dismissal, two further wickets fell in quick succession and, at 73 for three, Clacton were in potential trouble. However, Turner, playing with great confidence, and Maroof Khan showed great technique and class and rose to the occassion, putting on 87 for the fourth wicket both registering half-centuries along the way.

Khan was out with only eight runs required, leaving Michael Comber to smash the winning runs for a well-deserved victory.

The win takes Clacton to third in the EAPL.

Clacton's day had started in the best possible way after confirming a new shirt sponsorship deal with Touchline Sports.

The team wore their new kit for the first time against Great Witchingham.

Touchline Sports were formed in 2003 and, over the last four years, have become recognised as one of the leading multi-sport teamwear and equipment suppliers in the UK.
