Colchester Golf Club's men's senior team had a tie with a local derby flavour to it in the Essex Seniors Team Championship.
They were drawn at home against Five Lakes Golf Club for a match which was keenly-anticipated by both teams and one which Colchester narrowly won.
Joe Clarke was the first out for Colchester against Alan Riches and he went down on the last hole, but this was quickly evened-up by Barrie Minns, who had a three and one victory over Bill Guthrie.
The next three matches all went to the last and all were halved with Trevor Cock, Colin Anstey and Dick Proctor sharing the spoils with Logan Nayager, Bryan Rhompson and Brian Ball.
Norman Ryan then lost five and four to Mike Kettle, but this was quickly levelled by Colchester's team captain Dick Bokenham, who won by a similar score.
Clive Hebden was taken to the last hole in a very tight match by Harvey Bernstein but his two-up victory started to swing the tie in Colchester's favour, leaving wins by Tim Rogers over Chris Southgate (three and two) and Mike Cosgrove over Danny Murtagh (five and four) to seal the overall match.
The last game on the course also went to the 18th hole when John Eddolls beat Colchester's Roger Robertson one-up to make the final match score 6-4 to the hosts.
Colchester now have a trip to Channels Golf Club at Chelmsford.
