Jason Levermore and Andrew Pestell went one better than their performance last year by winning the East Region qualifier of the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship supported by Sunderland.

The pair, who were runners-up in the 2007 qualifier and finished 11th in the national final in York, carded a 12-under-par 58 at Bush Hill Park near Enfield to win by three strokes from Fynn Valley's Paul Wilby and Simon Dainty.

They did not drop a shot in 18 holes, with Levermore, who had four birdies, recording an eagle at the 530-yard tenth after hitting his three-wood approach to 12 feet and holing the putt.

Pestell almost had an eagle of his own at the short par-five last, his 20-foot putt lipping out to leave him with a simple tap-in for his sixth birdie of the day.

"We got it going nicely. I had four birdies and an eagle and Andrew had six birdies and we managed not to birdie the same hole," said the 28-year-old Levermore from Clacton Golf Club.

"We just seemed to gel quite well. We didn't have any bogeys, which helps.

"We were going quite well but were in a bit of trouble at the par-three 16th when we both missed the green with wedges but Andy chipped in for a two.

"He then knocked it to about 20 feet on the last and lipped out for an eagle so it could have been even better."

Levermore is now looking forward to returning to the final at Fulford to improve on last year's performance.

"We got off to a slow start in the final last year but made the cut after the second round and then in the final round I think we were six or seven under for the last nine holes to jump us up the leaderboard," he added.

"If we can get off to a better start we will have a better chance."
