Colchester United are in the market for a new left-sided midfielder, following the departure of winger Kevin McLeod.
McLeod has completed a switch to the U's Coca-Cola League One rivals Brighton and Hove Albion, after rejecting a one-year deal to remain in north Essex.
The departure of the former Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City player has boosted Medy Elito's hopes of holding down a regular first team berth next season.
However, Colchester boss Geraint Williams wants competition for places throughout his squad.
And he is likely to step up his search for a replacement for McLeod over the coming weeks.
Williams told the Gazette: "Medy was keeping Kevin out of the side towards the end of last season and he was in the team on merit.
"But we would like to bring someone else in to put Medy under pressure for that starting place.
"We're always looking to improve our squad."
