The Thornton team at Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club have done it again.
On Sunday, they played Ilford in the second round of the Challenge Cup, taking in some of the best club players in Essex and themselves fielding virtually a full strength team.
The morning foursomes saw Harwich take a deserved lead 3-2 and in the afternoon singles matches there were some excellent performances throughout the team, the final score being 10-5.
All credit to Ilford for putting up a good fight against a strong Harwich side made up of Adam Burwood, Colin Wallace, John Oakley, Matt Adams, Eric Burrows, Chris Wooldridge, Daryl Heard, Lee Manning, Dan Stapleton and 14-year-old Jordan Slater, who showed his maturity by winning his singles match in the afternoon two up.
The team was led by non-playing captain John Stace.
This puts Harwich into the last 16 in Essex and they are drawn against Enfield in the third round match to be played on Sunday, July 6.
The Jubilee Cup team also continued their good play when they took on West Essex at home.
Their final result was again a draw 4 - 4 and they need a win on June 14 away against Colne Valley to ensure a place in the last eight knockout.
A draw may be enough but they really need that win.
In the ladies' section, Glynis Hutchence had a good nett 71 score to win the June Saunders Cup with Linda Burrows runner -up with a nett 75.
The veterans, unfortunately, have not been on a winning streak, losing their match at home to Frinton and also the two matches away at Ipswich and Colchester.
