Ipswich Town are unlikely to bolster their squad in the next few days, according to chief executive Derek Bowden.

Although plenty of transfer activity is anticipated later in the summer, nothing is happening at the moment because so many football people - players and officials - are away on holiday.

Bowden said: "It's a quiet time and early days when it comes to making close-season signings.

"It's a strange time of the year with so many football people away on holiday.

"Our ambition remains the same - to gain promotion to the Premier League - and this is what we will all be working towards in the months ahead."

Town boss Jim Magilton is expected to bring a significant number of new players to the club this summer, as he spends owner Marcus Evans' millions in a bid to reach the Premier League.

One player he has already confirmed his interest in is Leicester City defender Gareth McAuley.

He had three bids turned down during the January transfer window but Foxes chief executive Paul Aldridge has admitted his club would have to consider any offers, now they have been relegated to Coca-Cola League One.

As yet, no bids have been tabled by any club for the Northern Irishman but Aldridge said: "We will have to consider any offer that's made to us and respond accordingly."

Reports earlier in the week claimed Leicester want £1.75 million for the 28-year-old, who signed a new contract until 2011 in February.

Elsewhere, Reading - like Ipswich - are being linked with Dagenham and Redbridge left-back Scott Griffiths.

Leeds, Southampton and Charlton are also believed to be chasing the 22-year-old. Town's name has also been mentioned in connection with American international centre-half Carlos Bocanegra, who has been released by Fulham.

The player is said to be biding his time before deciding on his future, with other clubs thought to be chasing him including Coventry, PSV Eindhoven and Spanish side Osasuna.

One other name being linked is that of Plymouth Argyle winger Peter Halmosi.

The 28-year-old Hungarian was previously mentioned in connection with Town in December.
