EXPLOSIVE pair Taylor and Tovide can be United's very own TNT, writes MATT CALMUS.

Joe Taylor is already a legitimate Colchester United pin-up with that fast-paced six goal start. Banishing those sole striker bad old days, he's embracing a strikeforce mentality.

Gazette:

If he and Samson Tovide develop an innate understanding, as they did for last Saturday's synced consolation effort together at Crewe, then League Two should beware. Start combining more regularly and those 'TnT' at the double headlines will write themselves.

It'd be an explosive pairing. Both Taylor and Tovide have precocious talent, bags of energy and an absolute duelling will to win. They'll do whatever it takes. You just feel it's also time for them to sit down and thrash out those finer details that'll put an end to our losing habit.

Gazette:

Hopefully the weekend's breakthrough goal marks footsteps being taken towards a telepathic reading of each other's game. It's an electrifying prospect.

Once they iron it out and agree things are fun in tandem, perhaps more opponents will become acquainted in the unsubtle art of eating grass.

Taylor plays himself with ease into United's present tense as a real life Roy of the Rovers. His all round game outstrips almost every front-runner seen in our club colours since Jamie Cureton. Comparisons are inevitable.

Such hunger can only rub off on fellow forwards like a still teenage Tovide and Noah Chilvers, yet to find the net thus far. The latter took deserved plaudits for running himself ragged in Crewe.

Taylor just absolutely loves playing football, schooling defenders; he has exactly what it takes to make seasoned pros blush. The stadium's his playground and it shows.

Now, even causal football watchers can see why boss Ben Garner so desperately wanted Joe to sign for us. Hangin' on the telephone, essentially, until it was a done deal.

Gazette:

It's almost as if the club's new goal-cam technology has been added simply so Taylor can single handedly create his own personal highlights reel. A pure joy to see.

Samson will have plenty to say on that, mind. He needs to hone his own ruthless edge in finding goal, as he did last weekend and also on his comeback against Gillingham. Against Mansfield too, Tovide put in a totemic performance, being double-marked.

Gazette:

Taylor, meanwhile, is a throwback forward commanding all his modern-day attributes; a standout team player in the attacker role, one that's so traditionally associated with selfish traits.

If these two ferocious individuals can put aside egos that obviously demand each to score alone, it'll yield devastating results.

Hoping Colchester become more clinical in front of goal is a painstaking process on our emotions, but a thoroughly necessary one to endure if we are to climb the league table.

Gazette:

All roads lead to goals, with Colchester United's strikers. That's the expectation anyhow, as we're turning the ball over far in excess of whoever we play, and creating clear-cut chances aplenty. Encouraging signs.

For the fledgling duo charged with taking 'em in attack, time to work together by clicking on the pitch. Taylor and Tovide; it's good to talk.
