Bocking Alliance Bowls Club were able to present a cheque totalling £1,577.85 to St Helena Hospice in their AGM this year in remembrance of their Ladies Captain, Jeanette Seymour.
In September 2019, the local league in Essex was won for first time ever under Jeanette’s captaincy, and within a month or so, Jeanette sadly as well received a cancer diagnosis.
Jeanette died at the start of 2020 before the pandemic, and under the care of St Helena Hospice.
Yvonne Butcher explained how the club first started collecting money in 2020, but then how typical fund-raising “was out of the question” due to the pandemic when there was no close contact allowed during bowling itself.
After raising most of the money in the past year, the club was able to present the cheque to Neil Meadows from St Helena Hospice at their AGM this October.
The Bocking Bowling club has existed since 1923, and for the past one hundred years it has provided competitions, events, socials, and fundraising activities.
The club is independently owned, organised, and welcomes all people who are interested to contact them on their website, in time for their return to activities in April, before the summer season.
