Since March, we have seen only three race winners, eleven podium sitters but every single race has brought excitement, thrill and most importantly it has given us the new world champion. Dutchman Max Verstappen was crowned three time world champion in Qatar after a thrilling Sprint race Saturday, with him collecting an amazing 549 points in just the 2023 season.
This season there was underperforming from the teams we all thought would excel, McLaren being the name that will most likely strike that match. They saw a DNF in Bahrain, the first race of the season, from rookie driver Oscar Piastri, and disappointingly consistent bottom half results from driver Lando Norris. However, Austria brought upgrades to the car, and from there came the McLaren we all know and love. The second half of their season being extremely impressive, Norris featuring on the podium 7 times since the British Grand Prix in July, Piastri not far behind him, winning the Qatar sprint race and being a 2 time podium sitter in just his rookie season.
Ferrari were also underperforming this season, not delivering the results people were expecting of them. However, the Singapore Grand Prix brought great triumph to Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, we saw him come out on top and become the only non-red bull driver to achieve the top step in the 2023 Formula One season. Other Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc saw many disappointing races but the end of the season brought great triumph, him placing P2 in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ending the season with a high, unfortunately not the same for Spaniard Carlos Sainz who ended Abu Dhabi with a last-minute DNF.
Considerably the most dominant team of the season, Red Bull saw a win in every single race bar one, the Singapore Grand Prix. World-champion Max Verstappen won 19/22 races, breaking world records all throughout the season. He surpassed Sebastian Vettel's record of consecutive races, Verstappen winning 10 in a row. This saw him with arguably the most dominant season in Formula One anyone has ever had. His teammate Sergio Perez won 2, claiming P2 in the World Driver’s Championship. Claiming a third successful season in a row for Red Bull.
