A NEW pilates class is starting in Castle Hedingham aiming to ‘inspire’ and ‘energise’ locals wanting to improve their personal fitness.

Qualified instructor Roz Nugent, 58, ‘fell in love’ with Pilates after taking a class in London with teacher of international celebrity Madonna, James D’Silva.

She said: “I tried Pilates once when I was 40 and I swore I’d never go back – I was so bored,

“But then one day, by chance, I tried a class with James D’Silva at Dance Works in London and my opinion completely changed.

“I just fell in love with it – I want to do this every day."

After finding a passion for Pilates, Roz did a teacher training course and quickly received her qualifications, before teaching in Mayfair and Notting Hill Gate in London, at Virgin Active Gym.

She wanted to adapt the repertoire of Pilates, making her class dynamic and contemporary – mixing in other exercises, rather than sticking to the traditional mat sequences.

Now, being more dynamic than classic Pilates classes, Roz’s new Dynamic Pilates classes will include a talk-through with the whole class and guided transitioning between exercises and movements.

“Someone asked me ‘how fit do I need to be to do a class’, and I told them as long as you can get on and off the floor, you can do this class," she said.

“It’s for people who want to get fitter and who want to feel energised."

The class is suitable for ages 15 and over and began last weekend at Castle Hedingham’s Memorial Hall.

Classes are from 8.30am to 9.30am and are £10 with no booking required.

Further dates for Dynamic Pilates will be posted on Facebook - until January 2025, when the class will run every Saturday from 8.30am.

Roz also said she hopes to find another venue in the future, in or around Hedingham, to offer alternative classes to a wider community.
