COLCHESTER United have made midfielder Teddy Bishop their 11th summer signing.

The 28-year-old has joined the U's on a two-year deal, after his departure from League One side Lincoln City was announced earlier this week.

Bishop, who had been out of contract at Lincoln this summer and failed to agree terms on a new deal with them, made 112 appearances for the Imps, scoring 15 goals.

Bishop progressed through Ipswich Town's academy and made his first-team bow for them in the 2014/15 season.

He went on to play his part in helping Mick McCarthy's side secure a Championship play-off spot and made 81 starts and 51 substitute appearances for Town, scoring five times.

However, he was sold to Lincoln in 2021 and remained at Sincil Bank until this summer, before his departure was confirmed earlier today.

Speaking in June, Lincoln boss Michael Skubala praised Bishop and fellow out of contract player Danny Mandroiu for the impact they made.

"Teddy and Danny were fantastic for me, they are fantastic footballers," Skubala said.

"But even when you want to keep them you can't always keep them and there comes a point where negotiations break down, because it doesn’t matter who you are there is a structure in the club that the club can't break, even for me.

"No-one is bigger than the club and and eventually that [contract talks] might have broken down."

Bishop will now be aiming to impress in Danny Cowley's new-look Colchester side this season in League Two.

He is in line to make his U's debut in their opener at AFC Wimbledon, on Saturday.
