TEDDY Bishop admits signing for Colchester United was a 'big decision' after joining them on a two-year deal.

The 28-year-old midfielder has linked up with the U's, after his departure from League One side Lincoln City.

Bishop had been out of contract at Lincoln this summer and failed to agree terms on a new deal with them.

The former Ipswich Town midfielder feels he has made the right choice in joining Colchester - and says management duo Danny and Nicky Cowley were a factor in his decision.

Bishop, who had been out of contract at Lincoln this summer and failed to agree terms on a new deal with them, made 112 appearances for the Imps.

He is now looking forward to a new challenge with the U's and is happy to have signed.

Bishop told CU-FC.COM: “I would have liked to have been here and settled maybe a couple of weeks ago, but it’s been in the pipeline for a little while.

"It was just a big decision for me, but I think I’ve made the right decision.

“I believe in the project, the managers had put together a really good presentation to me and I like where the club is going.

"Danny and Nicky have proven promotions from this league, so that was another factor for me.

“The players they’ve signed have all got experience in League One or higher, so I think we’re putting together a good squad.”

Bishop has revealed Colchester striker Tom Hopper played his part in him signing for the club.

The duo played together at Lincoln and the experienced forward had plenty of good things to say about the U's.

Bishop added: "So I'm quite close with Tom Hopper - obviously I played with him at Lincoln, so I've been speaking to him a lot before I made this decision.

"He had great things to say about the club and football's a small world, so I've played against a lot of them.

"I played with a couple of them briefly so I know some but it won't take me long to settle in."
