DANNY Cowley lit the fuse and it was the TnT of Taylor and Tovide that blew Tranmere Rovers away, in what was the most all-round performance we have seen from Colchester United under the Cowley brothers.

From the off, we hit the tempo that both Danny and Nicky had been talking about and expecting.

There was no let up for the visitors' defence and we got an early reward with an almost carbon copy of the goal we witnessed at Morecambe, Samson Tovide losing his man, a pinpoint pass across the box and Lyle Taylor connecting to give us the lead.

But as luck would have it, that was the only repeat of the previous week's game and unlike then, we never looked in danger of surrendering our lead.

Taylor got his second just before half-time, while Tovide's goal was reward for his hard work and topped off a great afternoon in front of goal.

But although the headlines were about the scorers, it was more than that which caught the eye of the U’s fans who were in fine voice throughout.

We looked a complete article. Everyone did their job and did it well, the defence prevented Tranmere from getting the ball into dangerous areas very often and you could see the frustration on the faces of the visiting forwards.

In midfield, we dominated the ball and were able to control the pace of the game.

This onfield control, along with some particularly good game management that saw the right substitutions at the right times, led to a very enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine watching Colchester.

While there is a danger of letting all this excitement run away with us, we have to remember that it it is only our second league win this season and we have been guilty of surrendering games when we have been fully in control.

So now, while we rightly enjoy the buzz around Saturday’s win, we must remain grounded and look to back this up with another win, at Walsall.

This will be a challenge as they are in form and are yet to lose at home.

But as long as we go there and play our football, in the calm, confident manner we have now shown we can, there's no reason why we can not get all three points in front of the television cameras; remember all that it is a changed kick-off time, with the game now starting at 12.30pm.

I must mention the milestone of Taylor scoring his 100th league goal.

It's an impressive feat and a massive achievement - let’s hope we are able to witness many more and see him pass the 150 + tally while with us.

The Tranmere win has set the benchmark for what we should expect from the side, moving forward.

We have shown we can produce the performance and the levels required to take the next step on the road map to success, but of course this is all well and good been said, we need to produce it week in and week out, not just on the odd game day.

That's the next challenge and one I am sure Danny, Nicky and everyone associated with the club are currently working on.

Let's as always do our bit and and make a lot of noise from the get go up in the Midlands on Saturday - see you there.

Up the U’s.
