EX-FRINTON Golf Club captain Rob Long celebrated his 60th birthday with a Texas Scramble, in support of Cancer Research UK.
Players from Frinton and Clacton golf clubs supported the event and 158 guests took part, including several professional footballers while Clacton MP Nigel Farage joined the players for breakfast.
The winners were Liam Wilson, Ross McAuley, Jamie Redden and Andrew Murray with nett 57.2.
Frinton Golf Club’s Claire Vaughan triumphed in the prestigious Windfall Trophy final.
She won on countback with 36 points as 32 ladies from clubs throughout Essex qualified for the final day, at Colne Valley.
Frinton ladies competed in a stableford, setting out in pouring rain but finished bathed in glorious sunshine.
Four ladies came in with 34 points, with Karen Wright winning on countback, followed by Ginny Richardson, Louise Wood and Jean Mockford.
Frinton ladies finished second in a friendly triangular match at hosts Clacton who claimed victory, with Harwich and Dovercourt third.
Frinton's men’s groups all returned good scores.
Gary Chisnall won the Monday Men with 40 points, a point ahead of runner-up Marius Wolmarans.
The WAGS division one was won by Simon Jackson with 40 points, one ahead of Adrian Joshua, and division two’s winner was John Taylor, who beat Melvyn Harvey on countback, after both players scored 40 points.
Martyn Madden won the Friday Ferrets first division with 39 points, with Adrian Joshua again finishing as runner-up one point behind, while division two saw three players on 37 points, with Rob Bones winning on countback from Charles Penfold and John Connor.
Club pro Tom Hide, the new captain of Essex PGA, has arranged for Frinton to host the Essex Open on May 8 and 9, next year.
Frinton GC held its inaugural night golf event, which was a great success.
The next is due to be held on October 31 between 5.30-7.30pm and the pro shop are taking bookings.
The club were proud to host another Hammers Heroes Celebration evening, attended by former West Ham stars Jimmy Walker, Rufus Brevett and Sebastien Schemmel.
The next Hammers evening at Frinton is February 7, when Phil Parkes will be speaking.
