COLCHESTER United's under-21s tumbled to a 7-0 defeat at Watford in their latest Professional Development League Two game, writes BRIAN WALLER.

The U's youngsters remain bottom of the table after a heavy defeat against the Hornets.

The likes of Alex Kokoshi, Ollie Godziemski, Kaleel Green and Harrison Chamberlain all featured for Liam Bailey's side.

Watford assistant coach Dan Gosling told watfordfc.com: “A dominant display. Some of the goals were really good, some of the attacking play was really good, so we are really pleased with that.

“There are still one or two things we could be better at, but overall a good positive day.

“We have come off the back of a disappointing month results-wise. The performances have been there, the chances have been there, and we have created a lot, but we just haven’t been clinical enough.

“That was the key message, getting the chances and taking them, and that is what we did today, and that is why the scoreline is like it is."

Watford totally controlled the match and scored six first-half goals.

The first came on 13 minutes after Jonathan Lawson's shot was saved by U's keeper Chamberlain but Mathis Eboue was on hand to score from the rebound with a simple tap-in.

After that, things went badly downhill fast for Colchester.

Watford's second goal came seven minutes later, after Lawson rounded Chamberlain to score.

Then after good work by defender Albert Eames, he set up the chance for Zavier Massiah-Edwards to make it 3-0 on 26 minutes.

It was 4-0 three minutes later, as after Jake Watkiss broke down the left his low cross was met by the foot of Lawson, who fired home.

And a minute later, Kevin Keben got on the end of a cross to score a fifth.

After Watkiss saw his shot saved, it was beginning to look really embarrassing for the U's as they conceded a sixth goal just before half-time when Eboue received the ball before firing home.

The second half proved not as damaging for Colchester but they did concede a seventh goal with four minutes remaining.

After hitting a post a few minutes earlier, substitute Josh Keyes got his goal on 86 minutes.

Colchester under-21s are next in action on Friday when they host Charlton Athletic.
