COLCHESTER United were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first-round stage after losing 2-1 at Swindon Town, on Saturday afternoon.
The U's had led through Harry Anderson's 64th-minute strike but Joel McGregor equalised in the 83rd minute for the hosts, before Kabongo Tshimanga struck the Robins' winner in the first minute of the second period of extra-time.
Here are the Gazette player ratings, after the U's were beaten at the County Ground.
MATT MACEY 6
U’s keeper made a good save to deny Tshimanga prior to equaliser and pulled off a fine stop from McGurk before Swindon winner
ROB HUNT 5
Colchester right-back was tested against his old club before being replaced in extra-time. Booked
TOM FLANAGAN 5
U’s skipper had to deal with Tshimanga’s threat on his return to the starting line-up. Booked
AARON DONNELLY 6
On-loan Forest defender was solid at the back and performed well on a disappointing day for Colchester
ELLIS IANDOLO 5
Hooked a first-half effort away from near his own goal-line; had his work cut out dealing with Sobowale. Will be disappointed with manner of Swindon winner. Booked
JAMIE MCDONNELL 5
Was combative as usual in the Colchester midfield before being replaced just after the hour. Booked
ARTHUR READ 6
Went close with a long-range effort in the first half and provided fine pass for Anderson goal but was caught out for Swindon equaliser
HARRY ANDERSON 7
U’s man of the match. Took his goal very well and gave Freckleton a hard time
JACK PAYNE 7
Was desperately unlucky to see his extra-time effort hit the woodwork. Tried hard to make things happen for his side against his former club
JK GORDON 5
Squandered a great chance early on and only had a few glimpses of goal before being replaced. Booked
LYLE TAYLOR 6
Led the line well for Colchester but did not have any clearcut chances before going off midway through the second half
SUBSTITUTES
ALEX WOODYARD (for McDonnell, 65) 5
Battled hard for the cause but could do little to prevent Swindon’s two goals while on the pitch
TOM HOPPER (for Taylor, 69) 5
Came inches away from connecting with Read's low cross into the six-yard box soon after U’s goal
ANTHONY SCULLY (for Gordon, 78)
MANDELA EGBO (for Anderson, 78)
HAKEEM SANDAH (for Hunt, 114)
Substitutes (not used): Kelleher, Goodliffe, Jay, Smith.
