Alan Maybury is eager to banish his cup semi-final heartache and take Colchester United one step closer to Wembley.
The well-travelled right-back heads to Kenilworth Road with the U’s tonight to take on Luton Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy southern area semi-final.
Maybury, 30, has suffered his fair share of disappointment in knockout competitions.
Earlier this year, he was a losing semi-finalist in both the Scottish Cup and League Cup while on loan at Aberdeen.
And back in 2001, Maybury was an unused substitute when Leeds United crashed out of the Champions League in Valencia, again at the semi-final stage.
He said: “We came so close last season when I was at Aberdeen.
“We never made it and that was disappointing.
“It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s the Uefa Cup or the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy – it’s a chance to win some silverware.”
