Winger Mark Yeates has insisted he is happy playing on either flank if it benefits Colchester United.
The Irishman played on the left for the U’s at Leeds United last Saturday, where he scored one goal and made another in his side’s 2-1 triumph at Elland Road.
Yeates had predominantly been used on the right wing by Colchester boss Paul Lambert and his predecessor Geraint Williams since signing for the club on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur in July, 2007.
However, he played mainly on the left flank for the U’s during their Coca-Cola League One promotion season under Phil Parkinson and is willing to play wherever he is asked.
Yeates said: “If the gaffer asks me to play somewhere I will play there and give it 110 per cent.
“We all have jobs to do out there and I’ll play anywhere I can, as long as it helps the team.
“It’s good to be able to play on both flanks as a winger and I think some people feel I’m better out on the left than I am on the right.
“To be honest, I do enjoy playing out on the left a bit more because I can come in on my right foot and get shots away.
“I’m capable of getting down the line on the left a bit more than I am on the right.”
