West Bergholt grabbed the top spot in the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division with a 4-0 win over Coggeshall Town, but they are being closely pursued by University of Essex.

The University side had a 5-1 win over Earls Colne, with the goals coming from Will Peck, Rob Hopgood, Kieron Hack, Mark Maher and Shaun Plumber, with Colne grabbing a late consolation goal.

Brightlingsea stayed in touch with a 3-1 win over Tiptree Heath and Weeley Athletic grabbed three more points as they came from behind late on to beat Alresford Colne Rangers, with goals from Wayne Lamb, Ross Nash and Ryan Harvey.

White Notley entertained Team Bury – the only side to have retained a 100 per cent record – but this was swept away in a high scoring match where defence was abandoned in a 6-3 win for the hosts.

Notley scorers were Brendon Corr, Greg Bryant with two, and a hat-trick for Vassal Bogonoff.

With the weather intervening in over half the division one matches, Hedinghams made hay while the sun tried to shine, as they extended their lead at the top.

They had a 5-1 win over Glemsford and Cavendish, while Rowhedge had good 4-2 home win over Boxted Lodgers, with goals from Ryan Brady, and a hat-trick from Paul Western.

In the reserve sections, Alresford took the points against Mistley in the premier division when Hassan ran on to a long ball from within his own half to round the keeper and find the back of the net.

Both sides battled well on a slippery and heavy surface, but Alresford had the better chances and won 1-0.

Bradfield Rovers drew 2-2 with Great Bradfords in division one and Tiptree Heath had an emphatic 7-0 win against Hatfield Peverel.

Glemsford were always chasing the game against Gosfield United, having to peg the visitors back three times before snatching a late winner to take the points 4-3.

In the Border League Reserve Cup, University of Essex Reserves moved into the semi-final with a 2-1 win at Boxted Lodgers Reserves.

Meanwhile, Clacton United made the long journey to Manford Way for their previously postponed Essex Premier Cup tie, but the coastal side found no reward as they were beaten 6-2.

However, Gas Recreation Reserves earned themselves a home tie against Steeple Bumpstead Reserves in the Essex Junior Cup as they beat Braintree and Bocking 5-1, while their new opponents were knocking out Dedham Old Boys Reserves 3-2.
