Jimmy Walker has hinted he could join Colchester United on a permanent basis when his loan spell ends.

The experienced shot-stopper – on loan from Premier League club West Ham United – played in Colchester’s last four Coca-Cola League One matches and kept his first clean sheet for the U’s in their goal-less draw with Scunthorpe United.

Walker, 35, is yet to discuss with Colchester manager Paul Lambert whether he will turn his loan move, initially agreed until the end of December, into a full-time switch.

However, he has enjoyed playing for the U’s and working with fellow goalkeepers Dean Gerken and Mark Cousins over the last few weeks and will discuss his next move in the next fortnight.

He said: “I don’t know what the future holds for me yet.

“I spoke to the gaffer (Paul Lambert) and we decided on a month’s loan to get some games, because I haven’t played as much as I’d have liked.

“It was the right decision for me and who knows, at the end of the month we shall see what happens.

“Colchester have two really good keepers in Dean (Gerken) and Mark Cousins who have impressed me a lot in training.

“The future looks good for them and hopefully I can be a part of that but we’ll see.”
