William Kennedy has sailed to a national title.
The 15-year-old sailor, from Burnham and a member of the corinthian Otters, together with his crew Rhos Hawes from South Cerney Sailing club, won the Cadet Inland National Championships held at Grafham Water.
The pair, sailing under the flag of Fishers Green Sailing Club, took the title with three second places and two fourth places to finish on 14 points.
Second place went to last year’s National Champions, Arthur Henderson and Matt Currell who were seven points behind, having won the second race. Third place was taken by Sophie Dingwall and Chris Sycamore with two victories and a sixth, seventh and eighth place for a total of 23.
Kennedy, a pupil of King Edward the VI Grammar Shool, Chelmsford, has been sailing since the age of six, starting in an optimist dinghy.
He then began to crew in the Cadet class at the age of seven before starting to helm at 13.
Last year Kennedy was a member of the British team and took part in Cadet Class World Championships held in Medemblik, Holland, last August, finishing in 24th position.
