Jamie Guy has admitted he needs a fresh challenge.
And the sidelined Colchester United striker is keen to move to Port Vale, once he recovers from injury.
Guy is seemingly no longer wanted at the U’s, having not featured for their first team since February.
The 22-year-old was on the verge of clinching a loan move to Coca-Cola League Two club Vale earlier this month.
It would have seen him link up with former Colchester assistant manager Micky Adams, who is the Valiants manager.
But his hopes of a move were scuppered when he suffered a torn cartilage in a pre-season friendly against Kidderminster Harriers.
The injury is expected to keep him out of action for up to two months.
After undergoing a knee operation, Guy will spend his rehabilitation time at Colchester.
But he is hoping that once he regains his fitness, his move to Vale Park can be resurrected.
Guy told the Gazette: “I hope I can go back to Port Vale and do well and maybe get something permanent.
“I think it’s time to move on and start a new challenge.
“I played a couple of games for Port Vale and scored a couple of goals.
“I was feeling pretty sharp and fit.
“Things were going decent for me - I know Micky Adams from when he was at Colchester.
“I always got on well with him when he was here and he seems to get the best out of me.
“He has told me to stay fit and stay in touch.”
