Colchester United will draw up a final shortlist of no more than five candidates for their vacant manager’s post.
The U’s have been delighted with the response they have received for the role, following Paul Lambert’s switch to Norwich City.
The club will discuss all of the applications they receive at a board meeting on Monday.
They will then begin the process of holding formal and informal interviews.
Teddy Sheringham looks out of the running to take over as U’s manager.
The former England star spent the final year of his playing career with the U’s, during the 2007-08 season.
Sheringham has been touted as a possible successor to Paul Lambert, who quit as Colchester boss earlier this week to take over at Norwich City.
However, Sheringham will not be throwing his hat into the ring.
He has various television commitments and has been a regular pundit for ITV, since bringing the curtain down on his illustrious career last year.
Sheringham’s agent Barry Nevill confirmed to the Gazette: “Teddy will not be applying for the job.”
