Jack Colback believes Ipswich Town missed a ‘massive opportunity’ by failing to beat ten-man Preston.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s match at Portman Road and are still waiting for their first Coca-Cola Championship victory.

Ross Wallace gave Preston the lead but Town responded through Jon Walters, who followed up after his penalty was saved by Andy Lonergan.

Lilywhites defender Callum Davidson had been sent-off just before for handling Liam Trotter’s shot.

Sunderland loanee Colback, 19, told the Gazette: “It was a massive missed opportunity to get three points.

“When they went down to ten men, we felt sure we could kick on and dominate the second half.

“We had a grip on the game but it just wasn’t to be and, for whatever reason, the results aren’t going for us.

“If we knew why or could put our finger on it we’d put things right.

“It’s frustrating but on a personal note I feel I’m doing steadily.

“It’s always nerve-racking when you come to a new club and this is the first time I’ve played competitive football at this level.

“But the lads have been very welcoming and I’m getting a feel for it.”

Midfielder Colback insists Town boss Roy Keane can bring the good times back to Portman Road.

“There’s no doubt about that,” he said of the Irishman, who was also his manager at Sunderland.

“He’s a winning character – just as he was as a player – and you can’t let yourself get down because that won’t help.

“We’ve just got to keep believing.

“For me, I’m just so happy to be here.

“Ipswich are a massive club and I jumped at the chance of joining.

“Within an hour of finding out they wanted me, I was on my way down the A1.”
