The rebuilding of Ipswich Town’s underachieving squad has seen Liam Rosenior join on loan for the rest of the season from Reading.

The 25-year-old full-back (pictured), who is out of contract in June 2010, has played in all five of Reading’s games this season, but has decided to move to Portman Road and join what Keane hopes is a revolution.

However, it has been far from that so far, with Town languishing near the foot of the Coca Cola Championship.

Rosenior comes with Premier League pedigree, having played 92 games for Fulham and also been at Reading while they were in the top flight.

An England under-21 international, Rosenior played in the championship play-offs last season and is expected to slot straight in at right-back when Town play their next match – away to Middlesborough on September 12.

It was thought the deal was going to see Town full-back David Wright move in the opposite direction after he had been linked with a move to the Royals.

But no deal was done so Wright will compete with Rosenior for a place in Town’s defence – an area of the pitch they need to improve after a number of poor goals were conceded in the opening games.

Wright was left out of the 18-man squad which drew 1-1 with Preston at Portman Road, fuelling speculation his days with the club were over.

With right-sided Carlos Edwards also signing, as well as midfielder Grant Leadbitter, the make up of Keane’s side will be open to conjecture.

The addition of Rosenior just before the closure of the transfer deadline suggests Edwards will play further forward.

Keane has shifted between a 4-4-2 and a 4-3-3 system with neither bringing success.

Now Pablo Counago is fit and showing his creative talents, it may be that Keane resorts to a 4-4-2 with Edwards on the right side of midfield.

This leaves question marks over Jon Walters’ role.

Used most effectively as a right-midfielder, Walters has also figured on the left and could be an alternative to Lee Martin who has so far showed promise without producing a consistent end product.

Town may dip back into the market next week when the emergency loan window opens on Tuesday.

And it could be that Town players depart as well.

Chief executive Simon Clegg revealed that discussions did take place regarding a couple of players – one of which is believed to be Gareth McAuley – and Clegg added that players could leave on loan
