Colchester United ended a run of eight matches without a win with a crucial 3-0 victory over Swindon Town this afternoon.

The U's drew level on points with sixth-placed Huddersfield Town and boosted their Coca-Cola League One play-off hopes, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester were second best for the majority of the first half.

Jonathan Douglas and Danny Ward both went close for Swindon, while Charlie Austin blazed over when he should have scored.

But Colchester took the lead against the run of play when Ashley Vincent scored at the third attempt after twice being denied by keeper David Lucas, following David Prutton's through pass.

Gordon Greer's drive crashed against the crossbar for Swindon just before half-time but Anthony Wordsworth forced Lucas to make a good save, at the other end.

U's goalkeeper Ben Williams made a superb save to deny Swindon striker Billy Paynter and five minutes later, Wordsworth swept home an accurate low drive to double Colchester's lead.

Wordsworth then added another in the second minute of stoppage-time, robbing Scott Cuthbert and playing a one-two with Lisbie before coolly shooting home.
