Aidy Boothroyd labelled Colchester United's 3-0 win over Swindon Town as a "huge" result, after seeing them end their eight-match unbeaten run.

A brace from Anthony Wordsworth and another from Ashley Vincent helped the U's see off the Robins at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Boothroyd said: "It's a huge result for us.

"We grew as the game went on and got better as it went on.

"I'm genuinely delighted and we will certainly celebrate this one tonight.

"I hope that we can look back on this at the end of the season and say it was a defining moment.

"But it will only be a defining moment if we can build on it in the rest of the games."

The only downside for Colchester was the booking picked up by two-goal hero Wordsworth, in celebrating his first goal.

The young midfielder celebrated in front of the visiting Swindon fans and was booked by referee Andy Penn, meaning he now faces a two-match suspension, after picking up ten bookings in total.

"It was a silly booking for Woody and I don't think he deserved it," added Boothroyd.

"We will have to look at what happens next with him."
