TWO-GOAL hero Anthony Wordsworth has helped Colchester United get their play-off challenge back on track.
But the young midfielder now faces a two-match ban after picking up what he described as a “silly” booking.
Wordsworth was cautioned by referee Andy Penn after celebrating his first goal in front of the visiting Swindon Town fans, in the U’s 3-0 win.
That means the 21-year-old has now picked up ten yellow cards this season, triggering an immediate two-match suspension.
Wordsworth is now set to miss Colchester’s crunch game at Charlton Athletic tomorrow night, along with the trip to play Hartlepool United on Saturday.
Wordsworth told the Gazette: “It’s a bit disappointing.
“I went to take a corner and got a bit of abuse (from the Swindon fans).
“I wanted to go over and celebrate and it’s a shame you can’ do that these days.
“But I knew I was on nine bookings and it was a silly thing to do.
“It was just one of those things and hopefully I’ll learn from it.”
