GARETH McAuley admits revenge would be sweet, if Ipswich Town could ruin Newcastle’s championship party at St James’ Park.
The Blues suffered one of the biggest lows in their season after losing 4-0 to the Magpies in September.
An afternoon that promised so much turned into an awful damp squib, given the big-match billing, the fact the game was being screened live on television and that Town were officially renaming their North Stand as the Sir Bobby Robson Stand.
Newcastle were three-up by half-time and have since gone on to claim the Championship title, courtesy of Monday’s victory at Plymouth.
They will receive their trophy tomorrow but McAuley and his team-mates would love to put a spanner in the works and silence St James’.
“You’re always looking for a bit of revenge,” said the defender.
“That was a big day for both clubs but we didn’t give a good account of ourselves.
“We made too many mistakes but if we can eradicate that and frustrate them tomorrow it’ll be a very different game."
