Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed his interest in striker Roy O’Donovan.
The 24-year-old, who has spent the last two months on loan at Hartlepool United from Sunderland, is one of a number of players U’s boss Boothroyd is keen on, as he looks to bolster his squad for next season.
O’Donovan, who has hit nine goals in 14 games for Hartlepool, is out of contract at the Stadium of Light this summer and is not expected to be offered a new deal by the Black Cats.
Colchester’s assistant manager John Ward was absent from their 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town on a scouting mission.
It is believed he watched O’Donovan play for Pools in their 1-1 draw against Exeter City at Victoria Park.
