Colchester United celebrate the 40th anniversary of arguably their greatest triumph this weekend.

This Sunday marks four decades since Graham’s Grandads humbled the mighty Leeds United 3-2, in one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history.

Ray Crawford’s double and one from Dave Simmons helped fourth division U’s stun Don Revie’s star-studded Leeds side at a packed Layer Road, back in 1971.

And although Norman Hunter and Johnny Giles reduced the deficit in the second half, the U’s held on to humble their visitors from Elland Road and reach the sixth round, sending shockwaves through the game.

In guiding his Colchester United side to victory over Leeds, who started the day 74 places above them, manager Dick Graham - a former team-mate of Revie at Leicester City - had conjured up a cup shock of monumental proportions.

It is one that is still talked about, 40 years on.
