Steven Gillespie insisted the result was the most important thing after netting Colchester United's dramatic winner against struggling Swindon Town.

The U's were not at their best against the Robins and rode their luck at times.

But Gillespie's long-range strike helped John Ward's side clinch a 2-1 victory and pulled them to within four points of the play-off places, in League One.

Gillespie said: “It wasn't the best performance – we know that, the fans know that and I think everyone knows that.

“But the three points is the most important thing and we're in a results business.

“The first thing the manager said afterwards was that we've played much better than that and lost.

“We played away at Charlton and deserved more out of that game.”
