Colchester United secured their fourth successive home win this afternoon after comfortably seeing off Walsall.

The U's won 2-0 at a rain-sodden Weston Homes Community Stadium, thanks to goals from David Perkins and David Mooney.

Former Colchester goalkeeper Jimmy Walker was in action early on by denying Ian Henderson, before Saddlers defender Oliver Lancashire hit his own woodwork.

Walsall threatened briefly, with U's goalkeeper Ben Williams – one of four changes to their starting line-up – denying both Alex Nicholls and Julian Gray.

But Colchester took an 18th minute lead when David Perkins drilled in, after Jon Macken had only partially cleared Lloyd James' corner.

The U's pushed for a second before half-time, with Kayode Odejayi seeing his header bounce off the crossbar and Walker pushing Henderson's effort over the bar, following another pass by Odejayi.

But Colchester did not have to wait long for a second goal, after half-time.

It came in controversial circumstances though, as Richard Taundry was harshly adjudged to have fouled Henderson in the area.

Mooney slotted in his 12th goal of the season from the spot and the U's went on the hunt for more goals, in the second half.

Walker denied Henderson and Matthew Gill cleared James' close-range effort off the line, as Colchester claimed another home win.
