Colchester United will go all out to stifle Peterborough United’s sharp-shooters tonight.

Prolific Posh are the leading home goalscorers in English football.

They have hit an amazing 47 goals in League One at London Road this season.

However, Darren Ferguson’s side have also conceded more times on home soil than any team in all four divisions, shipping 33 goals.

John Ward wants his Colchester side to stop the supply to the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith and Lee Tomlin.

And after their impressive 2-0 win over Walsall, the U’s boss believes his side are capable of stifling Peterborough’s fire-power.

Ward said: “Peterborough have some terrific front players and we have to try and stop the service to them.

“We hope to give them a game.

“We have to try and play our game but be very respectful of people like Mackail-Smith, Tomlin and (George) Boyd.

“They should be in a higher division than this one and if they turn it on, it'll be difficult.

“But if they don't or if we can stop them, then maybe we can make life difficult for them.

“But it won't be easy – they have big players and big management there.

“Everybody is trying to find consistency and we have to try hard to maintain that.

“But so far this season, we've done very well at home and been good enough to hang on the edge of the play-offs.

“If we can continue some of this form, we might be able to make the next step.”
